Over the years, I’ve known so many wonderful people – family, friends and lovers. Many of them are no longer with us.
As I get older, I find myself wandering in that forest of personal memories – the joyful, the sad, the saplings, the oaks. In the distance, I hear the echoes of laughter. And sometimes tears. Out of the shadows, remembered figures appear. Were we really that young? That nimble? That alive? Yes, we were.
I wanted the painting to feel like memory itself: people appearing for a moment before fading back into the shadows. The figures remain visible, but never entirely solid. They seem to emerge from the forest and then disappear back into it.
Gone, But Not Forgotten is my tribute and thanks to all those loved ones who filled my life and continue to shape who I am.
