“Nightfall” is a painting that was inspired by my unforgettable experiences trekking through one of Mexico’s arid, mountainous regions. The challenging landscape made me realize the value of water as a precious resource, and the locals, who showed me great kindness, had developed an ingenious system of hoses to distribute water from the high springs to those in need. The deep blues and organic textures of the painting evoke the vastness of the night sky and the rugged terrain that surrounded me.

One night, under an immense, star-filled sky, I awoke to a mesmerizing, silver moon. As I lay there on the ground, bathed in its ethereal light, I felt an overwhelming sense of connection to the universe. I sought to capture this feeling in the solitary, illuminated streak that descends through the heart of the painting.

“Nightfall” is my tribute to that wonderful night and to the resilient spirit of the people who call that land home. The painting’s composition, with its vertical emphasis and contrasting light, symbolizes the community’s unity and the vital role that water plays in their lives. Through this piece, I invite the viewer to share in the profound sense of wonder and connection that I experienced on that moonlit night, and to appreciate the strength and ingenuity of those who thrive in such a demanding environment.
