As an actor, Faust was a role I would have loved to play. I never had the opportunity to do so on stage — but I could try on the canvas.
One quotation from Goethe’s Faust stayed with me throughout:
“Two souls, alas, are housed within my breast, and each will wrestle for the mastery there.”
