I love shadows. They’re simply the absence of light, yet I’ve always found them fascinating. A slight change in illumination transforms what we see, creating shifting patterns that appear and disappear, like fleeting stories.
Whether cast on a wall, reflected in a window, or moving across a landscape, light and shadow have an extraordinary ability to capture our attention. Nothing has changed except the light itself, yet the world can appear entirely different.
With Shadows 1, I wanted to see whether paint could provoke a similar response. The challenge was to create a static image that might evoke some of the fascination and uncertainty created by the ever-changing relationship between light and darkness.
