Sunrise from Albert Bridge

Sunrise from Albert Bridge

Medium: Oil paint on canvas
Size: 30.5 × 40.5 × 2 cm

For a couple of years, I used to go for an early morning run or walk in Battersea Park and was regularly struck by the beauty of the sunrise as I crossed Albert Bridge. What stayed with me most was the play of the early morning light on the Thames, constantly shifting colour under the changing sky.

Fun fact: Albert Bridge is affectionately known as “The Trembling Lady” because of its tendency to vibrate, particularly when soldiers marched across it. The signs instructing troops to “break step” are still in place today.
