In creating ‘Beauty and the Beast’, I drew inspiration from the countless waifs and strays I’ve encountered during my travels. This painting serves as a tribute to their exceptional resilience in overcoming adversity. It’s a reminder that true beauty isn’t found in fantastical fairy tales, but in the everyday courage of those who endure against all odds.

The central figure, a young woman in tranquil repose, embodies quiet strength. The watchful cat by her side reflects the unwavering bond shared by those existing on the fringes of society. The painting’s tilted composition, stark black frame, and the vast, unpredictable sea emphasize the precariousness of their situation.

Despite the fairy-tale reference in the title, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ challenges conventional notions of beauty and heroism. It aims to inspire viewers to recognize the often-overlooked strength present within our world, a testament to the human spirit’s resilience.
